Fremont Foods: Fill Up at Strizzi’s Restaurant

While they may not offer early morning or late night hours, n in Fremont, California, is the  place to go for lunch and dinner. Known for their wood-fired grill, fresh fish, pasta, clam chowder and ridiculously large portions, this is a restaurant you can expect a wait at on the weekends, during prime hours. Patrons will tell you though that pulling up a chair at the bar and enjoying a glass of wine or a martini is highly recommended, because the food is well worth waiting for.


When you walk into Strizzi’s Restaurant, located at 2740 Mowry Avenue, you immediately feel welcome. Although modern, the environment is extremely soothing, with solid granite tables and earth-toned furniture. The restaurant is essentially divided in half. The main portion is open, soothing and spacious, where you can get a good view of the open grill from nearly every angle. There are also private booths nestled away for those looking for a more intimate setting.

Chalkboards with specials are neatly maintained and vibrant red glass lamps add a little thoughtful lighting in all the right places.  The entire restaurant is clean with a beautiful balance of brightness and earthiness, to appeal to anyone.


There is a reason why this is the place to go for Italian food in Fremont, California; it is authentic! Flavors of Old Italy marry with fresh fish and wood-fired grill options to cater to anyone’s taste. The aroma of garlic fills the air and their bread is almost good enough to be dessert. Speaking of, the white chocolate gelato gets rave reviews, and is considered a must try!

The flavors used have a long history! Luciano Strizzi opened the L. Strizzi Italian Deli and Shoe Shop in Greensburg, PA on Madison Avenue back in 1929. He and his wife, Assunta, started this dream that their grandson, Ray Bartolomucci Jr, has now carried on. In October 1986, he launched the San Leandro location and the others quickly followed.


Unlike many other venues, Strizzi’s Restaurant actually offers separate lunch and dinner menus. Both are thoughtfully put together and affordable. Although many reviews complain that this restaurant is overpriced, it is hardly expensive for colorful and attractive dishes made with fresh ingredients.

The Soup, Salad and Pasta Combination is a popular pick for lunch as are traditional favorites, such as Spaghetti and Meatballs, Oven Baked Lasagna and Cajun Chicken Risotto. Is lunch your primary meal for the day, or do you simply feel like indulging in a gourmet dish in the afternoon? The Wood-Grilled Salmon will  have you coming back for more!

For dinner, you really can’t get started without soup and a couple small plates for the table to share. Be sure to try the Tomato and Mozzarella, Cajun Fried Calamari and Fried Prawns. Dinner at Strizzi’s in Fremont, California, is always a satisfying treat, with plates like Asiago and Garlic Ravioli Rigatoni Bolognese, Wood-Grilled Chicken and Smoked Pork Chops. Of course, with both lunch and dinner, be sure to leave room to see what is on the dessert tray!

    Not a bad option! I like the copper river salmon that is a seasonal item!
